Psychosynthesis is composed of two Greek words; "Psycho," meaning Self or Soul, spelled with a capital "S", and "synthesis" meaning bringing together.

Psychosynthesis is a philosophy for living, a set of principles and a dynamic, open-ended approach to personal and transpersonal integration and synthesis. Wherever applied, Psychosynthesis seeks to enable the person or group to discover and take the next step toward greater inner freedom and responsible expression in the world. The Psychosynthesis process prepares one to choose consciously to cooperate with a natural growth and unfoldment, which leads to order and harmony within the individual and in society.

Psychosynthesis began in 1910 with the early work of Italian psychiatrist, Roberto Assagioli. Dr. Assagioli was a colleague of Sigmund Freud, C. G. Jung, and Abraham Maslow. From the beginning, Assagioli recognized the need for a broad conception of human nature, for a cultivation of humanity's natural tendency toward harmony within himself and the world. Within his work, he combined methods and ideas of Western psychology with spiritually oriented Eastern traditions. This evolving approach provides a framework to facilitate self-development and personal growth, as well as a means to release the more sublime and spiritual aspects of human nature.

Working with Psychosynthesis one learns to recognize and experience the self as an active, or directing agent, with the will harmonizing the various psychological elements composing the personality. One learns to move one's center of awareness to deeper levels which include the Transpersonal or the Higher Self. It is at this level that our journey toward experiencing and living with unconditional love, joy, beauty, wisdom, compassion, creativity, and universal consciousness begins.

Psychosynthesis is a comprehensive approach to self-realization and the development of human potential. The essential aim of Psychosynthesis is to help people discover their true spiritual nature, then to effectively utilize this discovery in everyday life. Psychosynthesis helps us to realize our creative potential, increase our ability to function harmoniously in the modern world, and improve the quality of all our relationships, and to do what we want to do when we tune into our innermost sense of self and purpose. So Psychosynthesis is a kind of therapy, and it is a method of self improvement, but more than this, it is also a process that co-operates with the unfolding evolution of all nature. It aims to bring awareness, wholeness and connection to the process of evolution as it happens in each of us.

Psychosynthesis is a way of understanding our lives, of helping us to know ourselves and trust in our own processes of growth and unfoldment. But Psychosynthesis does not deal only with the individual, for each of us is part of many different groups of people, including our families, our friends, our work mates, and so on. We are also members of a society and of the one human family that covers the whole planet.

Psychosynthesis honors both the individual and the groups of which the individual is a part. Partly because of this inclusive attitude, and partly by the nature of its transpersonal connection, Psychosynthesis is not a way of putting ourselves above or over anyone else. We can honor and utilize our own wishes and power but not at the expense of other people. Psychosynthesis does not rigidly analyze or label people and it is expected that we will not do this either.

While it concentrates on the personality, it also explores these areas that we could call spiritual, although it in no way imposes any form of doctrine or belief system upon the person using it. Psychosynthesis is not a religion, nor would it ever want to be. Although once you start doing Psychosynthesis it becomes a way of life, one of its greatest qualities is that it allows you to be and do whatever you want. So it is equally suitable for Christians, Buddhists, Pagans, Moslems, atheists, agnostics - indeed, anyone at all.

Many people in our modern world suffer from either one or both of two main crises. Firstly, there is the 'crisis of meaning'. Particularly in the western world but increasingly over the whole planet, many people live in an existential vacuum, where life has lost its meaning (beyond, at the best, the purely material). Psychosynthesis helps with the healing of this 'illness'. The second crisis is that of 'duality' - we do not know ourselves as whole, single entities, but are constantly torn between different desires and wishes. Psychosynthesis also works on the healing of this crisis through moving all the parts that make us up towards a clearer harmony - synthesis in fact.

Psychosynthesis recognizes that each of us is constantly growing. This viewpoint helps to put meaning and value back into life, and helps us make decisions about who we are and what we want. It can also help us realize our responsibility both to ourselves and the world as a whole. It can add a dynamic sense of self to the present moment, and a sense of meaning to ourselves and to our future.

Psychosynthesis can help you to 'know yourself' in the fullest sense of these words. In our modern world situation there is much strife between people on an individual and collective level. The state of our world on an ecological level is so poor due to the greed of some people and the mindlessness of others. There often seems to be such an appalling lack of care and understanding and so much unbalance, particularly in the interaction between people. Anything which helps people know themselves better, both as individuals and in the context of living a life in accord with others, has to be useful.

Psychosynthesis is an approach to self development that includes our spiritual as well as our physical, emotional and mental needs. Psychosynthesis aims to move us away from fragmentation and pain and towards integration and joy through including both the lighter and the darker sides of life.

Psychosynthesis approach to Psychosynthesis includes cutting edge practices for personal and spiritual development while closely following the original intention of Roberto Assagioli, the founder of Psychosynthesis, to include both psychological theory and the best from both Western and Eastern Mystery traditions. He said, in Psychosynthesis,  we shall discover in ourselves previously unknown abilities, our true vocations, our higher potentialities which seek to express themselves, but which we often repel and repress through lack of understanding, through prejudice or fear.

Psychosynthesis helps restore "soul" as the central focus of our work, and honors the dark side of our nature as equally part of the soul's journey as is the light. A deeper sense of meaning and value is revealed, which creates a psychic environment (or 'field') in which both individuals and groups of people are enabled to make decisions about who they are and what they want.

Psychosynthesis is both a theory and practice where the focus is to achieve synthesis and harmony within and around ourselves. Its hallmarks are a remarkable model of consciousness, concrete tools for developing and expanding awareness, tangible ways of working with the personality and a life long model for spiritual development.

Marjorie has been an instrumental part of our progress. Marjorie has been vital in helping my spouse and I work through some challenging times. She is very well educated on the topics we are seeking help on and offers useful perspective. She provides a comforting environment that allows us to have very productive conversations that often end with tools (communication tools, books, etc.) that seem to help us progress together as a couple. We highly recommend working with Marjorie to overcome some hiccups on the road of life.

My experience with Marjorie was absolutely wonderful. From the first visit I felt very comfortable and at ease. Her approach is very easy going and makes you feel like you are working together on your issues. I began seeing Marjorie to try and find balance between work and personal life and to help discover what I am really searching for in a companion. Marjorie focuses on your current self without dwelling on your childhood and was extremely helpful in identifying what is truly important in life. I am now happily married to my soulmate and excited about our future.

Marjorie is a wonderful, caring, comforting, sincere person. When I first went to her office I was unsure of what to expect, in fact I have never been to counseling before. Marjorie welcomed me with open arms in to an encouraging atmosphere where she is currently helping me with multiple stresses in my life (a breakup, school, friendships and an eating disorder). My experience with Marjorie has been so calming that I have been able to open up to her about my personal life and leave feeling even more improved then 50minutes prior. I urge Marjorie and her counseling to anyone who is under pressure.

If you are ready to improve the way you look at the world, and to make every 'today' a whole lot better, then it's time to meet and work with Marjorie. She helped me so much; with her support, I was able to take some old negative habits and thoughts and turn them all around for something much, much better. I am much lighter now, and am able to find joy everywhere I look. I credit that to my own efforts and Marjorie's guidance. Don't miss this chance to make your life a whole lot brighter!

My wife and I had never gone to couples counseling before.  We didn't know what to expect.  Our fears were not finding a good therapist or perhaps doing a lot of talking and not enough real work to improve our relationship.  What can I say; we needed some hands-on help to reverse some long lasting negative relationship patterns.  I was completely blown away.  Within our first session Marjorie had a good understanding of what was going on and over the next couple weeks we had managed to develop some communication skills to work on at home.  It hasn't been easy, just feels good to know we are working towards getting along better.   If you are looking for relationship experts, go no further, contact Marjorie; just don't take my time slot.

I would highly recommend Marjorie as a therapist. I found Marjorie during an anxious and confusing time in my life. Through her patience, understanding and true care for me, she helped me see my situation in a new light. I have grown immensely and changed my life for the positive with her assistance. Marjorie has given me tools that I will continue to use for the rest of my life. What an amazing experience with a wonderful person! Her office space and personality are calm, supportive and comforting — Marjorie has been a joy to work with!

I have appreciated the time I have spent with Marjorie. I have felt free to discuss anything I need without judgement. She has guided me to realistic goals and given me tools to help me go through my difficulties. I feel more clear, more confident and more informed about the choices and actions I take. She reminds me to create my life and to stay on track with what I need. My sessions with Marjorie have been an important element to my success and strength. I recommend her wholeheartedly.

Marjorie has not only been a wonderful therapist, she has been a wonderful support system during a very difficult time in my life. She embodies compassion and a true understanding for her clients. With guidance and steady encouragement, Marjorie creates a safe environment so whatever life decisions and work one needs to do, the space is given to do so in one’s own time. If you are looking for a more holistic approach to therapy, I recommend Marjorie to be your therapist.

    Kate L
Marjorie is creative, flexible, thoughtful and insightful. My work with her helped me to find the path I had lost and to let go of useless baggage I had continued to carry with me. I found her focus on the here and now refreshing; too often we are unable to reconcile the past and spend too much time hoping or worrying about the future. I still honor the past and plan for the future, but I live right now -- happily.

    Sandy G
Marjorie is an amazing therapist. She gets to the heart of an issue and then guides you and gives you the tools to grow past any limitations you feel you have. She is compassionate and accessible. She has a great sense of humor and is the best cheerleader you could ask for. I would highly recommend Marjorie if you are ready to move forward and have a lot of support doing so.

    Kelly M
I highly recommend Marjorie Gross as a therapist! She's a careful and considerate listener who actively encourages her customers to say what's on their mind, and provides a warm, relaxing environment conducive to honest expression. In my experience, Marjorie listens to what her interlocutors have to say, and helps them to draw productive conclusions without, however, imposing her own point of view. Many of her suggestions continue to resonate with me to this day, and helped me to work through some difficult career issues.
